The Mazda CX5 keeps coming up with families moving out of a saloon. It looks more expensive than it is, it drives well, and in our stock it starts at KSh 3.2 million. The confusing part is the versions. Diesel, petrol, AWD, turbo: which one do you actually want?
Here's every CX5 on our floor right now, and how to choose between them.
Mazda CX5 prices in our stock
| Version | Year | Engine | Mileage | Price (KSh) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CX5 Petrol AWD | 2019 | 2,000 cc | 69,000 km | 3,200,000 |
| CX5 Diesel AWD | 2019 | 2,000 cc | 67,000 km | 3,300,000 |
| CX5 Petrol Turbo | 2020 | 2,500 cc | 50,000 km | 3,350,000 |
| CX-5 | 2020 | 2,500 cc | 50,000 km | 3,350,000 |
| CX5 Turbo | 2020 | 2,500 cc | 58,000 km | 3,400,000 |
From our vehicles page, October 2026.
The spread is narrow. The cheapest and the dearest CX5 here are only KSh 200,000 apart. So your choice comes down to which engine suits your driving, not budget.
The three versions, in plain terms
Petrol AWD (2,000 cc). This is the simplest and cheapest one in our stock, at KSh 3.2M. All-wheel drive gives you extra grip on wet or murram roads. It's a good fit if most of your driving is in town with the odd trip out.
Diesel AWD. It's KSh 100,000 more. People pick diesel when they cover a lot of kilometres, especially on long highway trips. If you drive Nairobi to Nakuru or Mombasa often, test this one.
Turbo (2,500 cc). These are the 2020 cars, at KSh 3.35M to 3.4M. You get more power from the bigger turbocharged engine, which you'll feel when overtaking with a full car. You also get a newer year for very little extra.
If the CX5 isn't quite the right size
Mazda makes the CX5's smaller and bigger siblings too, and we have both:
| Model | Year | Mileage | Price (KSh) | Think of it as |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mazda CX-3 Petrol | 2019 | 52,000 km | 2,600,000 | Smaller, cheaper |
| Mazda CX5 | 2019 to 2020 | 50,000 to 69,000 km | 3,200,000 to 3,400,000 | The middle |
| Mazda CX-8 | 2019 | 98,000 km | 3,600,000 | Bigger, for larger families |
The CX-8 is the one to view if you need more room than a CX5 offers. Check the seating on the specific unit.
CX5 vs Harrier vs RAV4
These are the three SUVs families compare most in this price range. In our current stock:
| Mazda CX5 | Toyota Harrier (2019) | Toyota RAV4 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price (KSh) | 3.2M to 3.4M | 3.6M to 3.8M | 4.5M to 4.7M |
| Engine options | 2.0 petrol, diesel, 2.5 turbo | 2.0, 2.0 turbo | 2.0, hybrid |
| Note | Best value of the three | Premium Toyota feel | Includes a 2019 hybrid at KSh 4.7M |
The CX5 is the cheapest way into this class. The Harrier and RAV4 cost more, partly for the Toyota badge. Drive all three before deciding. For the wider picture, see SUVs for sale in Kenya by budget.
